I often am asked if Freedom Makers helps business owners determine what tasks should be delegated within their business. There is no general answer I can give that will cover every business. What one business owner can easily delegate, another would struggle to let go. Helping a business owner figure out what to delegate can easily become a rabbit hole of unwrapping their individual fears and self-limiting beliefs. For many entrepreneurs, their business is their baby. What part of caring for a baby can a parent easily let go?
Rather than viewing your business as your baby, reframe the view to a sports team. Many business owners view themselves as the star player, but the star player cannot do it alone. You cannot win a game as a team of one, no matter how good you are. Therefore instead of thinking of yourself as the star player, think of yourself as the coach. You determine the strategies the team will take and who will play where; you teach the team how to play each position. Being a coach of a team is the same as a delegating business owner.
With that in mind, what part of your business can you delegate? Figuring out where to start is overwhelming. Perhaps you have so many tasks, you don’t know where to start. Maybe you cannot think of any tasks at all. Depending on the approach, each business owner differs on what they consider too important to let someone else do. Some also believe only they can do it all, that no one else can do each task as well as they can. Still others may want to let go of tasks, but do not know where to start.
In response, Freedom Makers has developed a Task Audit. You can take this audit to determine quickly and easily what is a priority for you to do and what you are willing to let someone else do. We have broken the tasks down into six categories. Simply pick the categories you want to start with and go from there. Once you have identified what you are willing to delegate, you can start to figure out which task(s) fall under those categories. And then, you can schedule a call with us to begin exploring how to create a Set It and Forget It system for those tasks.
