As most of you know, we are a virtual assistant business that finds meaningful, flexible, and virtual employment for military spouses around the globe. Because we are stretched throughout the world, it is rare that I actually have the opportunity to meet our Freedom Makers in-person. However, every once in a while they will swing through my neck of the woods and we can meet. And when these in-person meet-ups occur, I am reaffirmed that Freedom Makers is comprised of some amazing people. I invite you to read Sharmin Romero's blog below about her take on our in-person meeting and what she thinks about Freedom Makers.
Seeing this challenge, Laura decided to do something about it. As an entrepreneur herself, she also realized that companies often need specialized assistance, and aren't always able to hire a company employee to match that need. Laura began recruiting military spouses, with incredible job skills. She then matched those skill sets to the deficiencies facing companies. These "freedom makers," the military spouses, provide freedom for those companies in need of virtual assistants, while also honing their own skills. Freedom Makers has skill sets spanning accounting, technical assistance, marketing, graphic design, and much, much more.
This is how I met Laura--via Freedom makers, working a few jobs in the technology field for her. However, being a "virtual assistant," I never met her face to face. We spent countless hours on the phone or via video conference call, working through a robust database or other technical issues. I enjoyed getting to know her, as much as I respected the mission of her business.
As we rolled through the San Francisco area, one of my priorities was to meet Laura face to face. She was incredibly gracious enough to meet us in the city. We enjoyed a wonderful lunch of clam chowder in sourdough bread bowls, and had fun being together in a non-virtual environment. It was great to finally meet her face-to-face, and to put a real face behind the tremendous respect I have for her and her company.
