Untapped Potential: Military Spouses Ready For Work.

At the very least, military life is unpredictable.

With a spouse or family member who works inconsistent hours, is constantly pulled to training missions, or unexpectedly travels for TDY missions and deployments, building or keeping a career is incredibly difficult. Add in frequent moves to new duty stations and the hardship of living far from family support, it is no surprise that nearly
35% of military spouses report they are not employed - but need or want employment.

Lack of affordable child care and moving to bases with financially depressed local labor markets are often stated as barriers to obtaining gainful and fulfilling employment.

According to a Blue Star Families Military Family Lifestyle Report, 51% of military spouses believe their connection to the military has prevented them from finding a job or getting promoted. These employment struggles are highlighted as a key reason why some service members decide to leave active duty, contributing to ongoing retention challenges in the military.

The problem is real, and the financial and emotional toll that joblessness has on military families is significant.

We are working to change that.

Multi-Tasking Ninjas

89% of all military spouses have some college education and 30% have a four-year degree. 15% have advanced degrees.

Military spouses are smart, educated, and capable. They know how to adapt and are experts at planning, researching, and getting the job done. They have a service mindset and remain remain steady and consistent even in a state of constant change. Complicated defense department acronyms and plans that change as quickly as they are made, dangerous deployments that take an emotional and psychological toll… military spouses are well equipped to persevere and thrive in the dynamic and fluid work environments small businesses often experience.

Military Spouses are ready and eager for meaningful work opportunities.

Katie M.

“I have skills that are useful and needed. Sometimes as a spouse we can't always work in our preferred field, so we feel lost. Freedom Makers gives so many of us a sense of purpose and opportunity that we so often miss in this life "we signed up for." I love the flexibility of my job and the diverse opportunities that are available. I also love my clients. I have been shown nothing but patience, kindness and warmth from them.

"The Freedom Maker community is a vast number of military spouses like myself. I love being able to make my own schedule and being available for my kids. It's so much easier for me to plan summer vacations or spring break getaways when I don't have to worry about taking off work. I can coordinate with my client ahead of time and still be able to volunteer. Freedom Makers have given military spouses an opportunity to work with our unprecedented circumstances."

I love that each of my clients is able to see me for who I am as a military spouse, mom, and a professional.
